The House of Grey Blog

So the first season of Harmonics is just about written. We have a few more chapters to write, then it’s off to edits. The cover art is coming along (and is going to look sick!) and we are getting everything in order for the podcast, eBook, Print version, and audiobook. Collin and I both agree that someone else should have come up with this story because as excited as we are reading it knowing all the twists and turns, we can only imagine what y’all are in for!

We are still throwing around the ideas for the order of the next project. Basically it’s down to Tournament of Blades or the MASSIVE rewrite of HOG. If it’s TOB, it will be a start to another killer series. If we undertake the rewrite of HOG, you can expect it to take much longer, but at the end you’ll probably have the first THREE books in the HOG series to delve into. Either way, you win.

Ok I’ve always wanted to say that in a real setting, but I’m done now. We’ve been talking about it for months now. The Q & A session with Collin Earl and Chris Snelgrove will be happening on Saturday, March 20th on Blog Talk radio at 1:00 p.m Mountain Standard time. This is going to be your chance to talk about the House of Grey with the guys that created it. Collin and I have been feeling the pressure to finish up The House of Grey for some time now. And while that is well underway, I looked back and realized that we let this pressure get the best of us. The forum has been neglected and lately the blog only has updates on the next episode and the episodes themselves. Don’t get me wrong, I get that The House of Grey is a great story and we’re working on it as fast as we can, but at the same time it is just the beginning of something much larger that we want to share with everyone. So in light of this reinvigoration, here’s what’s going on outside The House of Grey that y’all can look forward to:

I know that name is lame. I get that, but you get the idea. We are starting our little talk show that we will serialize here on The House of Grey website and will be an off shoot of the new production company that Chris, Nick Taylor (author of Legon Awakening and 8810) and I are starting. This is your chance to shape the show. Of course you are going to get updates about The House of Grey Series, Tournament of Blades, and any of my or Chris’s (yes Chris is currently writing, stupid genius badass he is; you have NO IDEA how he pisses me off. Ok I’m way off topic.) stories.  We will always take questions about those series and do our best to continue with our updates. We are also fans of anime, writing, fantasy, sci-fi, and other podcasts and podcasters so will be doing some interviews and stuff. Really this is about us three guys shooting the breeze with all you wonderful people out there. So help us turn this into a show you want to listen to and tell us what the heck you want. And I would like to give a special thanks to DAN for being the first to donate to our little project (even though I told him not to). The only real expense besides like hosting and stuff, we have here is time. The House of Grey takes a lot of our time but we love to do it. So because of money problems I have not been able to get my computer fixed and that has made me very sad. Don’t worry though, I am working on a way to fix that but Dan here, bless his heart, donated even after I told him not to. That is not only a true fan but a true friend. So thanks Dan. Now don’t the rest of you start feeling like you need to do the same. We love you all regardless. I am working some short stories that will be available on the website; if you feel so inclined, you can buy one of them. If not, that is ok too. We love you anyway, but I wanted to recognize Dan for his kindness and show him how grateful both Chris and I are for that. So thanks again Dan.

Episode 38 is well on its way to going live. Collin and I ran through the chapter and he is adding some content that will make 38 absolutely killer!!! Hang in there, it’s coming!

Check out out pics from Dragon*Con 09 over at the forum. Crazy costumes, 2 weird guys that look vaguely familiar, and so much more.  While we didn’t come home with the Parsec Award, we met some wonderful podcasters, propagandized The House of Grey, and made some fantabulous connections with folks who can push the book. In short, the weekend was made of awesome!

AND… we have to give a HUGEapology to our fangirl Starla Huchton for us being such giant slackers and not promoting her book sooner.  Starla’s debut book, The Dreamer’s Thread, is up to its 4th episode. Having some  *ahem* personal experience with the book, it too is made of awesome! Be sure to grab the feed here, and catch the promo down below. Let’s show a sister some love and get the word out!!!

And we switched out the poll. Cyann creamed Taris and the monks. This poll is more of a pool…but since the book is free, it’s not like you win much if you guess right. The Dreamer’s Thread Promo: 

Yep…it’s official. The House of Grey is up for the Best New Speculative Fiction Podcaster/Team award.  If fact, many of our fellow Podiobooks.com authors made the short list.  So Collin and I will be visiting the greater Atlanta area over Labor Day weekend at Dragon*Con. If any of our fans hail from there, give us a shout out and we can hang out. Super big huge thanks to everyone that has supported The House of Grey. Without you folks, we’d look pretty weird standing in a closet reading a book to no one.

Collin hits the Bar Exam on Tuesday. Send good vibes. After he regains consciousnesses, the last four episodes of The House of Grey will drop in rapid succession, so get ready. It will be both intense and sad. Intense that the flood gates of answers will unleash their retained waters and sad that the book will be finished :’( .  Oh but don’t worry my friends, we have lots more to come. Tournament of Blades, a few other Modern Fantasy Thrillers, the short story contest, and so much more.

On a final note, by the time most of you read this, HoG will have surpassed all of last month’s downloads. We’re talking over 13,000 just in July. Again, we can’t say thank you enough. I think we’ll have to start learning other languages just so it doesn’t sound so redundant! Let’s see…. Gracias, merci, arigato….

That’s right, just 1 short month later and we are past 70,000 downloads. In fact, April has surpassed March with the most downloads in a month!  It is seriously mind boggling for Collin and I to think about 10k downloads in one month. And it’s all because of our incredible fans! Make sure to tell your friends, family, and everyone else about The House of Grey.

Strange Condition continues to make headway with their music. Here are 2 articles from Denver magazines about the band- Colorado Music Buzz & WestWord.  Local fans can see them tonight at Boulder’s Famous Fox Theatre. Very exciting stuff!

Many of you have asked about the print version or even the traditional audiobook version of The House of Grey.  Well as soon as Collin gets his butt grad-u-ma-ta-ted, I pretty much have him booked all summer long toiling away in a dark and musty basement making those versions available for Summer 2009. And Podiobooks.com is in the works of changing their format to accommodate all of our versions. Wanna hear the updates straight from the horses mouth? Speaking of Collin, he’s almost (finally) done with school. We are working on Episode 32 at a frenzied pace and really appreciate the support (and patience) you guys have shown us.  Tournament of Blades will be on a more regular schedule I promise. Besides, nothing like a few extra days to contemplate the grand finale ending in 8 episodes.

Grayson explains to Monson who he is and how he knows so much about the Being of Seven Bloods. Monson learns about H.U.M.A.N.E. and has another out of body experience. Dawn shows up to help discover the information Monson is seeking. As he comes to, Monson is astonished at what happened while he was ‘gone’.

Hey there boys and girls. I wanted to throw up one more update to let you know that Episode 28 should be up late tonight. The chapter was run through the pre-release team and there was some problems that had to be corrected before it could be released. We are happy to let you know that the problems have been corrected and Chris will get those out as soon as possible.

Thursday of last week Chris and I got the chance to hang out with Strange Condition at their practice in northern Denver and it was a lot of fun. Cody, Shaun, Ryan and Jas are all totally awesome guys and are SUPER talented. If you haven’t listened to their stuff, REPENT and get your butts over to their site. If you live in the Denver area, hell if you live in Colorado, try to get to one of their shows. You will not be disappointed. Also, make sure you vote on the song you want for Tournament of Blades (over there on the right hand side of the site). I’m leaning towards Never Fade.

I wanted to talk to you all a bit about the pacing of The House of Grey. The book is quickly coming to an end ( I know sad right).  We have a ton of content that we are trying desperately to get to you, but our release schedule will get slower as the finals for school come around. Hey the project is free right? You can’t complain too much. Just know that Chris and I are dedicated to getting you the best story possible at the earliest possible time. You will have to do some waiting in the coming weeks. So please be patient.

The Chris and Collin Show! (or maybe the Collin and Chris show; I think that one sounds better.) I think that we are going to be adding this little 15/20 minute show to our site here in the coming months just so you can get an extra dose of us. (You love it; you know it) We are going to be talking about a great many things from Anime to other stories. I want your feedback on this one. What would you like us to talk about? What would it take to get you to tune in? Let me know here or pop over to the forum and tell us what you think.

So episode 28 is so close to being ready for release…again another 2 weeks worth of content poured into 1 episode!! Should be here by the end of the week.

Collin and I are invited to a jam session with Strange Condition on Thursday. We are going to check out their tunes and finalize the selections that could be used for Tournament of Blades. If you haven’t already, head over to their MySpace page  and take the poll over there on the right hand side of the blog.

As you can see from the prior post, Mr. Earl had the pleasure of speaking to the students of Valley High School.  I’m working on the Press Release for the event and will distribute it later this week.  Look for it on Digg, Stumble, Facebook, and all those other sites and up its presence by voting for it.

So if you’ve been in the Forum lately, you would have seen my comments that Collin and I sat down and laid out the rest of the book. You also would have seen that there is so much story to put out that…we will be forced to give you double chapters until the end of the book. I know, I know…I can hear the moaning and groaning already. I’m sorry it had to come to this, but almost all the remaining episodes will be 2-3 times their normal length and stuffed to the gills with content. It was a hard decision to make, but somebody around here had to take control of the situation.  That means that episode 27 will be….almost a 2 hour long cast… just shy of 2 HOURS of non-stop plot unraveling…I hope everyone will be alright with this turn of events…if you need a shoulder to cry on, just send Collin an email or IM him. 27 should be ready by late tonight or tomorrow…so hang in there.
